Capability Statement

QinetiQ operate a number of test and evaluation sites across the UK providing a range of testing and evaluation capabilities in: • EMC testing: – Anechoic chambers (EMC and TEMPEST). Our larger chamber measures 31m (L) x 17.5m (W) x 7.6m (H), see http://www.qinetiq.com/services-products/air/Documents/Anechoic-Test-Facility.pdf – Reverberation chambers: Capable of achieving the highest levels of RF fields in any laboratory in the UK – Large Vehicle Chamber: Useful for assessing ‘larger’ equipments – Off Site EMC measurement Capability: Experience of evaluating large platforms and fixed facilities – Lightning Capability and measurement • Radio Trials Centre: The Radio Trials Centre (RADEX http://www.qinetiq.com/services-products/air/Documents/Radio-trials-Centre-RADEX.pdf) offers a wide range of measurement capabilities supported by on site expertise in radio systems to meet your test requirements, de-risk your projects and offer cost saving benefits. It comprises: – an automated and calibrated measurements suite covering 2MHz to 18 GHz – IFF interrogation and measurement system covering all current military modes, including modes 4 and 5 – 200 nautical miles of calibrated airspace for trials aircraft – Mobile measurement facility for remote site • The Radio Frequency Environment Generator (REG) is an open area test site capable of high power radiated susceptibility testing over a wide frequency range, able to accommodate large systems. EMC testing is conducted in a safe and secure environment by a dedicated team of experienced personnel. Testing is conducted over the frequency range from 5 MHz to 35 GHz using over 120 licensed frequencies with customer-specific frequencies being available subject to licensing requirements. All test equipment is fully automated under software control, allowing for rapid re-configuration and test conduct. http://www.qinetiq.com/services-products/air/Documents/Radio-frequency-environment-generator-REG.pdf • The Noise Test Facility (NTF) incorporates one of the largest anechoic chambers in the world. Originally designed to study the noise produced by model gas-turbine exhaust systems, the facility has been significantly upgraded in recent years and is now used for a wide variety of studies. These range from airframe and undercarriage noise investigations to installation-effects, Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA), and shockcell noise measurements. At the heart of the facility, a large anechoic chamber occupies a floor area of 27m x 26m and is 16m in height. It is completely lined with acoustically absorbent wedges, rendering it anechoic to a lower frequency limit of 90Hz. http://www.qinetiq.com/services-products/air/Documents/Noise-Test-Facility.pdf • Environmental test including vibration, shock and handling tests, diurnal cycling testing, temperature, humidity, pressure, sand and dust, rain (driving and free-fall) and immersion tests (fresh water and salt water): – Blower Tunnel facility: The Blower Tunnel and Icing Facility are unique within Europe and widely used by a variety of military and commercial organisations. The facility is comprised of an open-air Wind Tunnel providing capability for the full scale testing of systems, including the simulation of driving rain and icing conditions. http://www.qinetiq.com/services-products/air/Documents/Blower-Tunnel-Facility.pdf – Environmental chambers: The QinetiQ Environmental test facility large chamber measures 24.5m x 25m x 5.4m high and the small chamber measures 7.5m x 4.0m x 5.0m high. The environmental conditions can be controlled between +70°c to -70°c with full humidity control and heating effect of the sun using solar arrays. http://www.qinetiq.com/services-products/air/Documents/Environmental-Chamber.pdf • 5m pressurised low speed wind tunnel: http://www.qinetiq.com/services-products/air/Documents/5M-Windtunnel.pdf • West Wales UAV Centre (WWUAVC) provides a dedicated UAS environment for testing, development, demonstration and training. It is the only centre in the UK to test UAS of more than 25kg. With its extensive airspace over land and sea, supported by air traffic services, the WWUAVC is at the forefront of UK UAS operations and procedural development. West Wales UAV centre Based in Wales, with other UK site locations available, the WWUAVC offers a complete infrastructure for UAS operations, from first flight through to test and evaluation, training and operational programmes. Also available are ground-based facilities such as environmental, electromagnetic compatibility, and communications testing. • Advanced Intrusion testing: QinetiQ’s Advanced Intrusion Testing (AIT) service simulates the sophisticated, persistent, multi-dimensional and pervasive cyber threats to test customers’ security vulnerabilities, and give a true measure of their real-world, exploitable risk. • Batteries Cable and Connectors testing: Technical and Quality assurance of all types of Power systems, Batteries, Cables and Connectors using a unique facilities to test under Hazardous, environmental, and dynamic conditions • Fast heating (fuel fire) tests • Slow heating (cook-off) tests • Rough handling and drop tests • Motion platforms Impact/collision testing • Explosion testing • Acoustic testing • Human sciences evaluation • Virtual reality training evaluation.
