Capability Statement

Our RIDC site at Melton, Leicestershire, has been purpose-built to support both high and low speed testing of vehicles and infrastructure using 11 miles of 25kV overhead line equipment and 3rd/4th rail DC equipment. Our Melton facility provides two separate test tracks: a high-speed facility between Melton Junction and Edwalton, incorporating 13 miles of track up to 125mph – 11 miles of this with overhead line equipment – and a slow-speed test track from Old Dalby to Stanton Tunnel, with four miles of track up to 60mph.

Capability – Systems

21 km long high speed test track (max 125mile/h) and large depot facility at Asfordby with three 200 m long roads. OLE equipment replicates all types currently installed on UK rail network and DC 650 I 750 VDC 3’· I 4th rail installed over 4.1 km length of track. Permanent way, Electrical systems, Overhead line, Propulsion systems, Brakes, Energy systems, Signalling systems, Telecommunications.

Capability – Testing

Many test can be performed including, Static test, Dynamic test, Crash test, Light-system test, Acoustic test, Fatigue test, Aerodynamic test, EMC.
