Fire safety assessment test laboratory

RTS PRIORITY AREAS1

Capability Statement

Combustibility, smoke density, smoke toxicity, etc. We can assist you with the questions and issues you have in relation to preventive material and design-based fire safety for rail vehicles by offering the following services. Our tests and test quantities: Combustible materials laboratory tests: Fire safety assessments must be produced for the materials used in rail vehicles. We can offer these tests in line with the following standards. DIN 5510-2: This standard describes the relevant fire-resistant material requirements with respect to combustibility, smoke density and toxicity based on the following standards: Determination of fire behaviour in accordance with DIN 54837 in a combustion shaft (combustibility class S, smoke propagation class SR, drop-forming class ST) – Determination of fire behaviour in accordance with DIN 53438 in a small combustion box (fire behaviour for surface ignition F and edge ignition K) – Determination of smoke toxicity in accordance with DIN EN ISO 5659-2 in the NBS Smoke Density Chamber with FTIR (FED values) EN 45545-2: This standard also describes the relevant fire-resistant material requirements with respect to combustibility, smoke density and toxicity with reference to the following standards: – Determination of the heat release rate (MARHE value) in accordance with ISO 5660-1 in the cone calorimeter – Determination of smoke toxicity and smoke propagation in accordance with DIN EN ISO 5659-2 in the NBS Smoke Density Chamber with FTIR (CIT, DS, VOF values) – Determination of floor combustibility (CHF criterion) in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9239-1 in the floor radiant panel – Determination of lateral flame spread (CFE criterion) in accordance with ISO 5658-2 in the spread-of-flame apparatus – Determination of fire behaviour for direct exposure to flames in accordance with DIN EN ISO 11925-2 Fire cause analysis tests: We conduct fire cause analysis tests on vehicles and vehicle assemblies that have been in a fire. This includes the following steps (also optional): – Inspection of the vehicle to record and document the damage – Further analyses in the laboratory – Fire cause analysis – Drafting of technical and/or organisational fire protection measures – Drafting of reports. DB Systemtechnik is QMS certified to the ISO 9001 standard.
