A comprehensive facility is available at Derby for testing and developing rail vehicles and their components. It has an extensive range of equipment that enables a wide range of tests to be performed. Tests can also be performed at other sites and on board rail vehicles. Tests are undertaken on products such as completed vehicles and their principal components: bogies and car bodies. The testing of supplier’s systems and components is a significant part of the service we offer. All the tests yield valuable data that supports development or confirms fitness for purpose. The test facility can offer the following: – Advice on measurement parameters and techniques, test efficiency and a consultation service for particular measurement problems. – Preparation of test specification to meet customer, contractual, national or international standards. – Preparation of test piece, rig manufacture, installation of test equipment. – Undertake tests, statically in our Laboratory or on site at a customer location. – Vehicle dynamic tests on the operators track. – Test management services. We can transfer the knowledge of planning our own tests onto managing tests carried out by other businesses and organisations. – Process test data on site or return to our base for more thorough analysis. – Preparation of test reports that satisfy the requirement of the test specification. – Analysis of third party test data We have transducers to measure : – Stress – Displacement – Pressure – Acceleration – Temperature – Load – Speed – Current – Voltage – CO2 Emissions – Train signals We have recently invested in a new generation of data acquisition equipment that provides transducer excitation and signal condition, high rates of digitisation and real time on-screen graphics.
